Will It Fit My Door?

Will It Fit My Door?

Upgrading your garage with insulation is one of the quickest ways to regulate temperature, lower energy bills, and make your garage more comfortable. However, before ordering an insulation kit, ensuring your garage door design matches the installation specifications is essential.

Here is a quick guide to evaluating your garage door's compatibility in three simple steps.

1. Check the Door Type: Sectional Overhead Door

Our insulation panels are engineered specifically for sectional overhead garage doors—the standard residential garage doors that lift up and fold along ceiling tracks in horizontal panels.

Compatible: Multi-panel sectional steel or aluminum doors.

Incompatible: One-piece tilt-up doors, side-sliding doors, or roll-up commercial curtain doors.

2. Verify the Panel Style: Traditional Raised Panel

Look at the interior and exterior faces of your garage door panels. Our system is designed specifically for Traditional Raised Panel designs.

These doors feature classic rectangular recessed or raised sections stamped into the steel panels. The interior side of these doors has standard horizontal frames (stiles) that create natural recessed cavities where the insulation inserts sit flush.

Compatible: Standard traditional raised panel steel doors.

Incompatible: Flat flush panel doors, high-relief custom carriage house overlays, or solid wood doors without interior channels.

3. Measure the Channel Depth: Exactly 1.25 Inches

The most critical measurement for proper friction fit and retention is the depth of the interior steel channel (the lip/frame surrounding each panel section).

How to Measure Your Channel Depth:

1. Open your garage door partially or stand on the inside while it is closed.

2. Locate the vertical or horizontal steel support stiles running along the inside of a door section.

3. Take a tape measure or ruler and measure from the flat back surface of the exterior door skin to the inside edge of the steel lip/channel.

4. Target Depth: Your channel depth must measure 1.25 inches (1-1/4").

If your channel depth is 1.25 inches, the insulation panels will snap securely into place without bulging, warping, or interfering with the door’s track operation.

Quick Compatibility Checklist

Feature Requirement Compatible?
Door Mechanics Sectional Roll-Up (Horizontal Hinged Panels) Yes
Panel Design Traditional Raised Panel Yes
Interior Channel Depth 1.25 Inches (1-1/4") Yes
Door Material Uninsulated Single-Skin Steel Yes

What If Your Door Doesn't Match?

If your garage door has a channel depth smaller or larger than 1.25", or if you have a completely flat (flush) interior surface without framing channels, standard insert kits will not stay anchored properly.

If you aren't sure about your measurements, take a quick photo of the inside of your garage door panel and the tape measure showing your channel depth, then send it to our support team for a quick verification before placing your order.
